Learn more about the Basset Hound.
This solid fellow is Bubba. He came to GGBR when his owner suddenly lost her home and had to find homes for him and 3 other dogs. Bubba is big, but timid and gentle. He is shy with strangers and standoffish with dogs he doesn't know, but is not aggressive. He warms up to women, but is choosy about which men he might approach. He warms up to dogs that give him his space and seems to enjoy the company of other gentle dogs. Bubba is also good with cats.
Bubba is housebroken, neutered, up to date on vaccinations and heartworm negative. Even though he is very shy, he exhibits no fear aggression and has not been a problem for the veterinarian. However, he does tuck his tail and run when frightened, so he can be a flight risk, if not on leash, or within a secure fence. Bubba is not particularly noisy, except for some "demand barking" when he thinks it is time for his meals. Bubba walks nicely on leash, but should wear a martingale collar, or other mostly escape-proof collar, or harness, in case he is spooked. He rides well in the car, but gets car sick, so shouldn't be fed before a car trip. Overall, Bubba is a handsome, sweet and affectionate dog, with a lot going for him. His shyness is a bit of a challenge and Bubba would probably be happiest in a home with only women, or with a man of Bubba's choosing. He takes some time and patience to settle into a new routine. If you like to take photos, Bubba LOVES to pose for the camera.
