"My name is Walter, but you can call me Walti! I am looking for a family that can give me all the love and attention that I will give to them. And oh boy, that will be a lot!"
Walter is a 2 year old neutered male who has energy to spare. He loves attention and will be eager to lie in your lap for hours. Walter is happy to greet anyone, and is great with anyone who respects animals. He does better with older children who are dog savy, but has warmed up to our toddler and doesn't seem to mind new people at all. He does like to jump up to meet people, but we haven't been strict about teaching him proper etiquette. He has shown a good aptitude for training and does very well when rewarded with treats or love. Most people find him adorable regardless :)
His other passion in life is food. Like most bassets, if left to his own devices you will find him on top of your table. This is pretty easily solved with love, attention, and pushing chairs in. He loves meal time and scraps of food fallen on the floor. He will get overprotective of food on occasion around other dogs, never humans. The dog he was living with had issues with food and some transferred to Walter. For this reason we feel he would do best in a single dog home. Again, work with a good trainer would help him to come a long way. He gets along well with other dogs off leash but has some issues on leash when he sees other dogs. He hasn't spent a lot of time on leash, but would love to go for walks everyday! We had Walter evaluated by a trainer who thought he had great potential as a good pet in the making. Despite all his short comings, he is a wonderful, wonderful dog, and will be a great addition to any family that has time to show him love and affection.
