Jerry is such a sweet and special guy.  This fellow arrived at the Stanislaus County shelter with a large bleeding mass on his back, and with nails over an inch long.  In foster care, he got a bath, nail trim, and the vet care that he so desperately needed.

Jerry is a very friendly and very people-oriented dog.  He loves his people and wants to be with them constantly.  He may bark and howl if left alone in a new place, but the good news is that he is perfectly housebroken, so if he needs to be left for a few hours, he can be left in the house where he won't bother the neighbors.  Given a little time, he seems to settle into a routine.  

Not only is Jerry a "people dog", but he is also friendly and playful with other dogs; check out the video of Jerry playing with 1-year-old puppy, Snap. He is also good with dog-savvy cats.  At a recent event, he seemed perfectly comfortable around small children and welcomed their attention and belly rubs.  Jerry is looking for a home where he will be loved and looked after, with someone who can spend a lot of time with him.  Jerry came to us very overweight, but he is getting into better shape and is already so much peppier for it, so we hope his next home will feed him well, but will keep him active and not let him get too fat.  

Jerry has had surgery to remove the mass from his back.  Unfortunately, the biopsy report came back as a cancer.  The margins were clear, so the tumor was removed completely, but the prognosis for recurrence is unknown.  His lungs are clear, with no sign of metastasis, so we are hopeful that he has years of happy life ahead.  If you are looking for a happy, friendly adult dog to be your companion, or a good ol' family dog, Jerry might be your guy.
