Jersey Girl came into GGBR after spending almost all of her 5+ years with a very special man who touched many lives. It was with a very sad heart that his family had to say goodbye to Jersey after they said goodbye to their very special son but they knew that Jersey was a special pup who deserved the best!
Jersey is 5+ years old (6 on August 8 ) having been adopted from her breeder at eight weeks old. She came to live with us as a foster child a little over a month ago and we have come to love and care for her very much! She currently weighs 45 lbs but looks like she weighs less. She is a great size for a Basset, not too big and not too small, just right in many ways!
Jersey has been spayed, gotten her microchip, had all her shots updated and tested for heartworm (negative) since she has come to live with us. Whey they spayed her, they did not that her spleen bleeds very easily, something her new family will need to know. She does need a good dental cleaning and may need to have one or two teeth pulled out.
We have yet to find Jersey's bad habit! Jersey is very mellow, does not bark, chew nor does she gobble her food. She take treats very lady-like. She was raised with other four-legged family members -- her favorite brother was a chihuahua. She has been living with our four-legged family which consists of another Basset, a lab mix and three cats. The only one she is interested in playing with is one of the cats. She will watch the dogs play but does not play with them other than occasionally stealing a tennis ball from our Lab. She even sleeps totally soundly on the bed and couch not moving at all during the night. She has been around small children as well as adults -- no problems with anyone. Her former owner had many medical issues so she has been around wheelchairs and other medical equipment. She LOVES to ride in the car and is a perfect passenger! Now that summer is here, she has been missing the daily rides to drop my two legged daughters off at school! She loves everyone in our family but is particularly found of my 15 year old daughter.
She loves to cuddle and be petted. Her "spot" is at the base of her tail. She rubs there so much she gets a little scab. I have seen her rub under lawn furniture, moving it across the deck, under the car, the stool of the recliner and of course your foot if it happens to be resting on the coffee table. She is so soft -- you think you are hugging a beautiful eddy bear!
She would do great as a single dog or as a sister to other four legged family members as long as they don't expect her to be really playful.
