"Love sponge", craving the attention of her people, describes this beautiful  60+ pound gal who came to GGBR from the Fremont Shelter. Ripley loves to go on walks, ride in the car, laze in the sun, surf countertops for food, chase squirrels...behavior typical for a basset. She is very smart and learns quickly how to get what she wants.

Ripley, however, has had issues with other dogs, initially not getting along with the other dogs in her foster home.  Gradually she has warmed up to the other dogs in the home but it has taken  time for her to do so. She is still not comfortable with strange dogs and will snap at them to express her discomfort. She will not be a good fit for someone who likes to visit dog parks or socialize with other dogs on a regular basis. With time, patience and positive reinforcement training it may be possible but only time will tell. It is being recommended that she be an only dog in a home with an active family (she gets along well with kids) or be with someone with basset experience who is willing to put in the work to help get her comfortable with their dogs.

Ripley came in with her left ear torn in several places, it was an old injury which has been cleaned up by our veterinarian to give it less of a mangled look. We don't know what trauma caused the damage but it might explain her reluctance to befriend other dogs.

Ripley is spayed, up to date on her vaccinations, heartworm negative and microchipped.  She is ready to go to the special family who is willing and able to help Ripley adapt to being comfortable and  happy around other dogs.
