Bastian is a lovable and easy going, eight year old Basset hound. Bastian was surrendered to us in April 2009 because his family could no longer care for him.

Bastian was an indoor mainly dog that is housetrained. His previous family said sometimes he would have accidents in the house if they didn’t let him out fast enough. When alone in the house, Bastian was normally left inside the house and his family said that he was never destructive, his main problem was that he would get on the couch and sometimes would scratch it trying to make himself comfortable.

Bastian was never left alone outside for more than fifteen minutes and would be happier in the house since when he’s left alone outside he becomes stressed and destructive.

Bastian didn’t live with children in his previous home, and would prefer to live in a home with kids that are at least eight years old since he likes having things his way. Bastian did live with cats, and his previous owner wrote, “He ADORES and plays with cats!” When tested at the shelter with cats, Bastian was fine and could definitely live with some in his new home. Sometimes when meeting new dogs, Bastian isn’t always super friendly at first. If he is introduced properly to another mellow and friendly dog he is fine. Right now Bastian is living with an easy going pit bull and gets along wonderfully with him. If Bastian lives in a new home with another dog, he would prefer a dog that won’t jump all over him.

Bastian is very upset here. He is constantly sitting at doors waiting for his former family and cries. It’s called “owner searching” and it’s very common in dogs that have a strong bond with only a couple of people. It shows that once Bastian knows his new family, he will form a strong relationship with them.

Bastian is a loving boy that will be happiest in a home where his family is home a lot with plenty of room for him to exercise and lose some of his excess weight.
