Anya was picked up as a stray in Sutter County in February. Since no one stepped up to claim this sweet girl after 2 weeks she was placed on death row. This is when Golden Gate Basset Rescue stepped in to give this gal hope for the new life she deserves.
The following is some info on Anya written by her foster mom. "Anya is a big smooshy red and white basset gal, the kind that you just want to hug and love on. Though she is estimated to be around 7 yrs old this gal is very young at heart, body and mind. Even the vet thought she was much younger before she started her exam. She loves to go for walks and gets excited when we put her harness on. She even joins in my two year old basset kidz playing and runs a mean Basset 500. Anya gets along well with Nikko kitty. She may give him the occasional sniff but will happily shares one of the many sleeping perches with him.
Anya is quite the friendly gal with everyone she meets no matter what the age. She loves attention but isn't overly pushy about it once she has settled in. Anya impressed me in the TSC store when we went to get more supplies. She was more interested in looking around and meeting everyone then sniffing all the wonderful delights in the store. She walks well on a leash after her initial excitement of getting to go though she could use a little more training on leash manners. She prefers to sleep on a comfy dog bed in your room at night over a crate.
Anya does wonderful with all of her care and has even calmly accepted me dremeling her nails. She is housetrained to the dog door. At night I have a baby gate at the bedroom door and she will whine and pace when she needs to go out.
Anya does need to be watched as she will bolt out the door in typical basset fashion. She gets nervous on car rides but calms down with reassurance. She is learning to "wait" when the car door is opened and will need more training in this area. For now I would suggest that she has a leash on in the car and/or has a seat belt harness. For the first 2-3 days in a new home she does have anxiety at night but that is easily remedied with the use of lavender scents and a hot water bottle wrapped in a shirt. Her hot water bottle will be accompanying her to her Forever Home.
Anya has a little bit of arthritis in her back which at 7 yrs old is not abnormal for a mature gal. The arthritis does not stop her ability to go or want to play. I have started her on an herbal supplement that seems to be working for her. I am more than happy to share the information about this supplement with her new family."
