Learn more about the Basset Hound.
Zoey is a sweet little girl basset. She is estimated to be about 6 years old, however she acts younger. Her bottom front teeth are worn down, though, which is probably how they estimated her age. She is crate trained and learning to be house broken. She has not chewed on anything she isn’t supposed to chew. She does like to check what might be on the table or counter and this is a behavior that needs further training.
She is thin and putting on some weight. She came to her foster home, with a skin infection and very long nails. She has had three baths so far and a nail clipping without difficulty. Her scratching from the skin infection is almost gone now. She is quite comfortable with any kind of care and handling. My teenagers even had her in the swimming pool the second day after she arrived.
She lives with our two big dogs and has done quite well with them. She would like to play with them, but they don’t always respond as she would like. I don’t know how she does with cats or young children, but I suspect she would do okay because of her easy-going nature.
She does well outside with a fenced yard, but prefers to be inside with her family. She is not a very vocal dog, but does sound like a basset when she talks. She just wants to be loved and cared for by a family of her own. She would do well as a single dog or with a dog companion.
She is to be spayed soon and at the same time will have a couple of small mammary masses removed. The veterinarian said these are usually benign, but we don’t know yet at this time.
This special little girl is a delight and has settled very quickly into her foster home. She is a great basset hound waiting for a great forever family. More about ZoeyGood with Dogs, Good with Kids
