Archie has now been in his foster home for a week (since 1/15/12) so it is early days, but he is proving to be a very sweet boy.  He is a little whiney and seeks attention, but this is not unusual in a dog going through a transition from the life he has always known to a new adventure.

Archie has a skin infection at the moment, which is responding well to treatment, so he won't be available for adoption until he has finished his meds and we check that a good diet is all it will take to solve the red belly and hairloss that he currently has.  Of course, expressions of interest are welcomed, and as this could take a couple of months to resolve, any adopter interested in taking him on while GGBR continues to pay for his medical appointments/meds for the skin is MOST WELCOME!

He is currently living in a house with cats.  Doesn't pay them much attention and he came into the shelter with a cat, so is obviously used to living with them.  He seems to be very people friendly, but hasn't yet been tested with young children (son in foster home is 15).  He would ideally be an only dog in a home where the occupants were home most of the time.  He seems to need and want human companionship!

If you are interested in Archie, please complete an adoption application.  You won't find him on the list of available dogs, so just make a comment on the form!

Initial info from the shelter:

OK.  I contacted the shelter about Archie.  He sounds really nice.  He came in with very inflamed and yeasty skin, and nails curled around into his pads.  He was no problem to handle when they clipped his nails.  Supposedly, his ears look good.  He is a little whiney, but not particularly noisy.  He is about 5-6 years old, neutered and his skin has already improved, just with the change in environment (and food?).  He seems to be either indifferent or intimidated by other dogs, depending on the dog, and he came in with a cat.

" The owners were evicted and brought the dog into the shelter.   Because of his yeast infection, the shelter told the owners that they would not be able to adopt him out, so would have to take him as a euthanasia request.  In fact, he is such a nice dog, they couldn't bring themselves to euthanize him.  He is friendly, gentle, and according to Sue, his skin has improved already.  He is scheduled to see a vet later this week, unless we can get him out sooner.  He is available for rescue now."
