Marley is a lovely 3 yr old boy with a sad story to tell. You see, Marley has epilepsy which is easily controlled with 2 inexpensive medications which he takes very easily. It is suspected that his family was not giving him his medications as they should have and he had a cluster of seizures the weekend of 8/11. When he was taken to the vet the family either didn’t want to or couldn’t pay for his treatment and decided to have him euthanized. The vet just could not bring herself to euthanize an otherwise healthy, happy dog so instead she had his owners sign him over and then contacted GGBR for help. This wonderful vet kept Marley for the following week while she stabilized him and while we looked for a foster home for him. It was initially thought that extreme stress had caused his seizure threshold to be lowered but so far we have not seen that to be the case.

Marley is loving, smart and a cuddle bug!! He attaches very quickly to his family. He has a lot of energy and loves to play either alone or with other dogs. He can take all of the toys out of the toy bin and try to play with all of them. Marley is great with kids as young as 5 years and crying babies don’t bother him at all. He enjoys playing and cuddling with children and is not too rough.   Marley loves to meet new people and is very respectful of their space. He is currently living with 3 dogs in his foster home, two beagles (male, 10 and female 15.5) and ridgeback (male 5) and he understands his place in the hierarchy of the pack.  Marley will all of a sudden start an impromptu play session and the other dogs love it. He has no problem eating with other dogs around and does not guard his food or approach other dogs when they are eating, he is very respectful.  Marley is housebroken, but is not used to using the doggie door yet, so I leave a door open and he goes out when he needs to potty.  Marley is very flexible, he is just as happy cuddling up to his family and laying around all day as he is going for a romp to the beach. He does great off leash and has a great recall, because he doesn’t go far from his owner’s side even when he is playing with other dogs.  He is also good just walking on the leash.  He knows sit and down and probably would do great going to training with his new owner to bond and refresh his skills.  He loves to play with squeaky toys and fetching the tennis ball.  Marley enjoys riding in the car, but can be vocal if left alone in the car.

Marley is not a fan of being crated when left home alone, he becomes stressed and very vocal, but we are working on that.  However he does tolerate a soft crate at night for sleeping. Marley would probably do best in a family with another dog or if he is the only dog with a family that is home more often than not.

Marley had been with the same family from puppyhood, so understandably some of his insecurity and not wanting to be away from a human might be related to his world being turned upside down in the last few weeks but through it all he is a joy to be around.
