*** Sundance is temporarily unavailable for adoption, during a recent meeting with a potential adopter she displayed quite a bit of separation anxiety when left by her foster mom. While that issue is addressed she is available for sponsorship only unless a committed, experienced forever home comes along that can take on her issues and help her work through them ***

Sammi's foster parent says this about Sammi:
Meet Sammi D. (aka: Sundance) a beautiful little red and white basset girl that is three going on one. When I first met Sammi some 10 months ago she was terrified of people but not anymore. With a lot of love and patience Sammi has blossomed into a playful, happy, spirited basset girl that is now being the puppy she was never allowed to be. Watching Sammi’s journey has been an amazing experience. Now Sammi D. is ready for that next very important step, finding that perfect family that will give her the Furever Home she so deserves.

Sammi D. gets along well with other dogs. In fact she would benefit from being in a home that had another confident dog as a companion and playmate. She also gets along well with cats but she will chase them if they run. Sammi actually plays with my cat, Sachi and has never attempted to harm her. She has chased after Sebastian but if he stands his ground nothing has ever happen.

Sammi needs an active family. She is not a lazy basset. She is a very active basset that loves long walks, playing and does many Basset 500 races in the yard with the other basset members of the Dog House Gang. Sammi does very well around children but would probably be a bit too rambunctious for very small children. As I said she loves to play. We have play time every night for at least an hour an Sammi has a blast. She will chase the toys, play tug and just have a grand time.

As I mentioned, Sammi is three going on one. Because of how fearful she was when she first came I take a very gentle approach in training. She knows many of the basic commands but like all bassets she sometimes wants you to think she does not remember them. She is a very smart basset who remembers where the treats are stored, even when you move them. She also watches to see if you are going to leave something good withing her reach. Yes she does have some bad habits. She can manipulate the dining room chairs out from under the table so she can climb on the table. Yes she can! In fact one time she moved a kitchen chair to the counter and I walked in and found her on the stove. Luckily there was no way she could turn the stove on and nothing on the counters could hurt her but boy was I shocked!

If you think Sammi D. might be the basset for you I would be more than happy to talk more about our mischievous but sweet girl with you. She is such a wonderful little basset gal and I am so proud of all the remarkable progress she has made.
