Meet Elvis! A very handsome Basset boy in search of a very special home. Here's what his foster dad has to say about this lovely boy:

I first met Elvis at the Solano County Animal Shelter. His long time owner kicked him to the curb because he didn't get along with their new small dog and he was not good with kids. The shelter said he was terrified. When they brought out this big beautiful red and white Basset I introduced myself to him and when I touched him he was shaking he was so scared. My grandson and I walked him to the CRV and when I opened the back he jumped right in with Cletus my loves everyone Basset. Elvis was so very happy to be out of there.  That was several months ago.

Elvis or LV as we call him has, I believe, been treated badly. While he has come to trust me and my 10 year old grandson and my 6 year old granddaughter, he is shy and fearful of everyone else. He will not take a treat from someone he does not trust. He will at times stay in the garage on dog bed I have there even when I try to get him inside. People he trusted have betrayed him and hurt him.

To address the issues that caused him  to come to GGBR. Elvis gets along with my two other Bassets fine. Cletus has even been able to get him to play a few times. When my son's girl friend brings her 20 lb Boston Terrier over Elvis barks at him when he gets too close, but so do Bud and Cletus. He is a little bundle of in your face energy. A couple of times Elvis took acception to his in the face and barked right at him up close and Dio charged Elvis. Elvis just got out of his way quickly. No fight no bite. As to not good with kids. He is fine with my 10 year old grandson, and 6 year old granddaughter. However, when my 20 month old grandson was here he ran from him. I would have to say, with proper slow introductions, kids 6 or older should be Ok.

Elvis loves our nightly Basset walks. The only time he gets excited is when I ask "who wants to go for a walk?" Bud and Cletus bark and LV wags his tail so hard it hurts if he hits your leg. He seems to lose most of his fear when we are on our walks and he is a sniffing happy Basset. He is very interested in cats on the walk but doesn't bother my 14 year old tabby who doesn't feel the need to run.

It breaks my heart when I see the fear he has when the door bell rings and someone comes over. Someone broke his trust and faith. It will take someone very special, very patient,  and very LOVING to restore what has been taken from him. To bring back some of the Basset that was. He so deserves a home of love and a life free of fear. Can you do that?
