Jilly Bean came to GGBR from the Yuba County Shelter where she was turned in as a stray so not much is known about her. Her foster mom stares into her eyes hoping one day Jilly Bean will tell her her story! No luck so far. For a stray, Jilly Bean is very calm and happy -- shows a little "opposite  separation"  anxiety -- she has to tell you about everything that happened while you were gone when you get home (or come into the room after being gone for a hour or so) and doesn't seem possessive about her food as many strays do. When you do come into a room she is  definitely  telling you something as her voice goes up and down with many different sounds coming out!

She is all Basset! From her lucious long ears to beautiful droopy eyes to her wagging tail and short legs! She needs to still put on a few pounds as she came to us very skinny . She was a little pink on her back legs and had been chewing on the base of her tail most likely due to a flea allergy but her first flea treatment and changing her to grain free food has helped to clear that up.

She was spayed and is now up to date on her shots, heartworm negative and will be microchipped soon. Overall she is a very healthy dog. She has ground down her upper and lower front teeth (not her canines) -- the vet thinks it was from chewing on something when she was feeling nervous. She likes to chew on the bones she finds in her foster sisters' toy basket, usually using one to get the other dogs to play with her! Her teeth do not seem to bother her at all but it will be something to keep on eye on as she gets older.

The vet and Jilly Bean's foster family think she is 5 - 6 years old -- it is always so hard to tell! However old she is, she is happy & healthy! She is starting to come when called, takes treats nicely, waits calmly for her food, uses the doggie door and stairs without any issues. She is happy to sleep on a blanket or bed on the floor as long as she is near you. She has not gotten up on any furniture! She will snuggle with you on the floor, but doesn't have to be touching you -- just happy to be in the room with you. There is one exception . . . she is a wonderful traveler in the car as long as she is touching you in the car -- a warm body in the back seat will do just fine, and if it is just her and the driver in the car, as long as the driver keeps one hand on her she is a happy pup!

She gets along well with other dogs, will stay close to you at the dog park, walks well on a leash with a coller or harness. She watches the kitties come and go but does not chase them. She has been very gentle with small children and does not react to the loud teenagers at her foster family's house -- just happy to be in the same room as people! Her foster mom thinks she could easily be crate trained if needed. She does like to jump up to see what is on the kitchen counter or table and will snitch goodies within her reach -- that is being worked on.

Her furever family could be almost anyone, she is so sweet and mellow. A family with large or small children, another dog or dogs or not, cats or not, as long as there is someone to listen to her story telling and give her loves, hugs and walks!

If you are interested in meeting Jilly Bean, she would love to meet you! GGBR's own Yenta is hoping to make a match soon!
