Ellie is a charmer, who was very recently rescued as a stray from a shelter. She is a lovely red and white girl with the most interesting cowlick on the back of her neck! She had apparently been used for breeding in her previous home, and arrived at the shelter thin, full of fleas and looking as though she may have weaned puppies fairly recently. We've estimated her age at 7 years, although she could be younger. Her thin hair, irritated skin and worn teeth suggest that she is an older dog, but those could all be due to years of suffering from flea allergy. Even her badly worn teeth may be from chewing at herself because of fleas. Ellie is now flea free and the itching is subsiding, so we expect that her skin and hair coat will improve, and she will be even more beautiful than she is at present!

Ellie is now spayed, up to date on vaccinations, dewormed and is heartworm negative. She is friendly, good with other mellow dogs, who don't get into her face, and she is good with dog-savvy cats. She is rather quiet, although she will let you know, if she thinks it is time for dinner!

Ellie is getting a housetraining refresher in her foster home, but it is easy, because she readily accepts a crate, if necessary, when she can't be supervised. In fact, Ellie often chooses to sleep in an open crate, even when there are other dog beds available.

Two of Ellie's idiosyncrasies are that she likes to chase flies, and she also likes to crawl into little hidden places to make a den and sleep. Perhaps that was her strategy, in her previous life, to get away from those pesky flies that drive her crazy, or perhaps it is a holdover from her puppy-bearing days.

Ellie is so new to GGBR that we have not had an opportunity to observe her around children, but her quiet personality suggests that she is a dog that would fit into just about any home.
