Tipsy

How happy are we as ‘parents’ of 3 year old Spencer (left) and 5 year old Tippy (right), shown in this photo relaxing following a fun day of play after the annual GGBR Spring Fling. Tippy came to us several years ago surrendered by her loving parents who were not able to provide the care she needed for the glaucoma affecting her eyes. Following removal of her eyes, she lost her companion dog last summer to cancer and was very lonesome. Along came Spencer who was very loved by his owners who could not keep him due to housing issues. Tippy and Spencer bonded immediately and spend their days stalking squirrels together, parading around the neighborhood on walks with their ‘parents’ receiving adoration from everyone they meet, and lounging on the terrace together in the sun. Theo

We lost our six year old Basset to her habit of ingesting things of interest on her walks to the park,. Someone had left a flip top lid on the ground and she got to it before we could get to her. We lost her in a few hours. It was devastating. Our home was quiet and our hearts very heavy. One day we contacted the GGBR and met with some of the most devoted pet lovers. After a few weeks they called and said they had a Basset being surrendered and would we be interested. A few days later we met Theo at a foster home along with his mistress. My heart went out to her and I admired her for accepting that sometimes you gave to make tough choices. She had Theo as a pup and now things in her home had changed and because of her love she was surrendering him to hopefully a good home. Theo was quite a handsome fellow and you could see he had been loved and cared for. We took him home with us to see if we could all be happy together. It has been a perfect match. He loves the grandchildren, gets along with the cats, loves vacations and is getting used to walks! We thank the family who surrendered Theo for giving us a chance to share our life with this wonderful friend. ****Jim and Sharon

Theodore Bigsby "Teddy"

We have been consumed by our first few weeks with Buddy (formerly Teddy, although he responds much more readily to Buddy!). He took to my husband and I right away and has been so great with us. He is fascinated by our staircase...we suspect it's because, as a basset, he's never been able to be at a height where he could actually see above people's heads. He loves having his belly rubbed whenever possible, and pretty much rolls over whenever we are nearby. We are very lucky in that he doesn't scratch at the door or chew on furniture, etc. so we can leave him on his own without having to crate him if we need to leave during the day. He is a super affectionate guy, and is right by our side wherever we are around the house! The one thing we are working with a trainer on is his fearful nature when people come to our house. He is great meeting people in neutral territory, but gets very fearful and "growly" when people come into his space. We have a great behaviorist who is helping us figure out how to make him more comfortable around guests and I think he will come around soon. Since we don't know much about his past before he was found by the rescue organization, we suspect he had some run-ins with some folks who were not super nice to him. Anyway, he is a great dog and we feel so lucky to have found him. Katie Teekell
