Missy and Molly Actually... the story of Missy and Molly!! “We fell in love with Missy, now named Abby, when we first met her. Smaller than your average Basset, an 8 year old tricolor with the saddest, sweetest eyes, it was apparent that she had a tough life. She was bred a lot and, judging by her hesitation around our teenage son, probably mishandled around teenage boys in the past. We also realized that even as she was getting used to us and our laid-back ways, she always seemed to be looking for another dog. Her foster family, Bate & John, noted that in their household, there were many other dogs around. Thinking that it would benefit Abby as much as it would benefit us (our 3 kids were competing against each other to spend time with Abby as was my husband!), we soon returned to GGBR to find another Basset to rescue us. From the get-go, we had only had eyes for Abby AND Molly, a 7 year old red and white. Shortly after adopting Abby, we met with Molly and Molly’s foster mom, Debbie. Abby and Molly have become best “sisters” since then. Without any effort at all, Molly seemed to help Abby in being more sure and assertive. While Abby still does not talk, Molly makes up for both of them, and we would not have it any other way. Much to Debbie’s misbelief, we actually encourage Molly to talk by talking back to her. Both girls handle being around not only our 2 legged family members, but our other 4-legged rescue, a 2 year old Maine Coon named Louie, who also believes he’s a dog. GGBR was the best thing to happen to us. No matter where the military may send us, we know that our family is now complete. Thank you to GGBR and to the whole GGBR family for doing what you do.”
Lizzie As you can see things are going very well at the Street household. Toby, the freckled boy on my legs, came to us from the Amador County Animal Shelter via GGBR in May 2012. He is a true lap basset and the most wonderful companion. He loves everyone and loves to play. Because of his joy with other dogs, we decided to adopt another. Lizzie came to us via GGBR in October 2013. She is an older lady, but also loves to play. One of our favorite pastimes is to watch the basset wrassle dance between them. One can also watch them as they dig through their toy box for just the right toy to chew or throw around. Lizzie has been cautiously but enthusiastically learning about lap time; the photo is of the first double ever. Both love to eat (what basset does not?) and enjoy their walks every day. Our pack is in doggie heaven, thanks to GGBR. Nancy and James Street Pioneer, California
Clyde (11/2013) Here we are doing just great. OMG.. I can't believe it! Louis (former Clyde) and Zoe they play for hours, take naps together to wake up and play more. He is such a beautiful, sweet and loving dog and we are so lucky we have found him. From the moment I saw his picture on the website I knew he was meant to be in our family. When my partner drops me off at work in the morning, Zoe and Louis need to come in and say hi to everyone and that makes everyone happy in the office. He is doing really well. He's now around 61# with a very shine and beautiful coat. I clean his ears regularly and he loves to be touched (never enough)!! I always recommend my friends and coworkers to check GGBR when looking for an adoption. I wish I had a bigger place and rescue more.
Chongo Abby, formerly named Chongo, became the 5th member of our family in December 2013, and she has utterly charmed us all with her goofy puppy energy, excellent cuddling skills, curious nature and friendly outlook. Abby loves to, well, insists upon meeting every dog we encounter in the city, and pretty much every human too. Super curious by nature, she will stop to gaze after interesting people, wonder at any new sounds, and fully explore all smells that may lead to something vaguely edible. (We've pulled some very odd things out of her mouth...)Her favorite activities include serious belly rubs, good naps & mealtime, sitting on the front steps watching the world go by, and running on the beach with friends. She's not too fond of car trips, but is making progress, as she will willingly go in as needed. Calm by nature, she readily lets the kids fight over who gets to cuddle with her first after school. We honestly feel like Abby is the very best dog for our family and remain grateful to everyone at GGBR for bringing her into our lives. She truly is an ambassador of goodwill as she brings a smile to strangers faces and in the process, forces us to be way more social too!
Roscoe Blu is doing great. He is growing more confident and content every day. I can't believe how well we have connected. From his early beginnings and great foundation with his wonderful foster mom, Sue Cole, to today, I feel truly blessed to be fortunate enough to share my heart and home with this special soul. He has already brought such healing to my life and I know that everything that needed to happen to bring him to the perfect place and time for me to adopt him was truly by design. Thank you all at GGBR, especially Donna Lim, for facilitating this incredible meeting. Click a letter to find an animal or view all.
