Charlie (Sacramento) We had the privilege of welcoming Charlie and Millie into our home in June of 2024 and have been so grateful for the joy they have given us. Charlie and Millie have brought their own personalities with them and now have settled into their routines of feeding and dozing (two of the things that Bassets most like to do) and walks around the neighborhood! The most important thing for us is that they have provided seamless companionship with the biggest personality in our home Jack (a 2-year-old Basset) who at times is envious of the new-comers but most of the time runs and plays and wrestles with Charlie and Millie. Along with the companionship they provide Jack, both Charlie and Millie are extremely loving additions to our family and provide me, my husband, and 16-year-old daughter a lot of pleasure and entertainment (!) and we feel that they now really feel this is their forever home. We are very grateful for the great work that GGBR does matching loving animals with loving homes. With gratitude, Sarah B (San Jose), 5Jan2025 [Charlie and Millie adopted June 2024]
Levi My husband and I adopted Inky (formerly known as Levi) on this day, 11/10/23, a year ago. We wanted to give you all an update from Inky's perspective: 'My parents dedicated this weekend for me because it's my gotcha day/birthday! Yes, it's been one year! [That's me, the little black and white guy, pictured with all my friends.] Here's a summary of my first year at the Camacho-Felix household: I was scared of my dad the first week they adopted me. Now, he's my best friend! Speaking of best friend, I have a best friend, Koa. Our moms schedule a play date for us every week even though they're exhausted from teaching. I also have a girlfriend, Pua. My parents took care of her and her sister one weekend while their parents were out of town and we've fallen in love since. We also see each other every week at daycare! Twice a week, I go to daycare with Ms. Katelyn and her pack. We play all day and go on field trips. I even got to swim during one of our field trips because my friends needed their tennis ball, so it was Inky to the rescue. Ms. Katelyn is the best! My mom's friend's dog also goes to my daycare too and we hang out outside of daycare. Her name is Penny and I think she's in love with my dad. I have so many doggie friends that my social life is my parents' social life too. My mom's friend who used to walk my brother, Kuya George, also walks me while my parents are at work. Ms.Dee is so nice! When my parents have a break from work since they're teachers, we usually go on hikes or go to the beach! My mom got to meet more of the other moms in the neighborhood and schedule play dates with them or walks with their pups even though she's an introvert and prefers to stay home. I got to spend my birthday weekend with my friends. My mom planned mini play dates and it was so much fun! On my special day, I got a puppacino and a doggy birthday cake! I still get nervous with people, especially when they come up to me with intense energy - even intense positive energy. Men/Guys also still make me nervous. So my parents are still working with me and gain more courage but telling folks that I need time and space. I'm not perfect. There are still things that I need to work on, especially with my confidence with new people. But I make my dad laugh every day. We wrestle and play every morning before he gets ready for work then play and wrestle again when he gets off work. I make my mom smile every day and help her heal her broken heart after my Kuya George passed away over a year ago. I never met him, but it sounds like he was a huge part of their lives. I still have a lot to learn, but I think our lives are fuller because we have each other. We are all healing each other either from past trauma or heartbreak. Cheers to one year! Inky (formerly known as Levi)'
Bass We have had Pretzel (formally Bass) for about half a year and he couldn't be more perfect for our family. We are absolutely obsessed with him, he has brought so much joy into our lives. He has a very sweet and playful personality and he absolutely loves to cuddle. We have never met such an affectionate dog! He always wants to be on one of his humans' laps. Pretzel enjoys going to the dog park and gets along great with other dogs. He loves to play chase and wrestle. He is a bit mischievous and is always looking for any opportunity to sneak a treat. Pretzel is very attached to his humans, as well as his big sister, Peanut (who he sees as a nice soft pillow to lie on). His transition into our home could not have been any smoother. He is a quick learner and responds very well to positive reinforcement. We are so grateful to Golden Gate Basset Rescue for matching us with our sweet boy! - Melina, Ev, & Peanut, 28Oct2024 [Bass, adopted 20Apr2024]
Blue "Gotcha Day" was May 6, 2024, and I was nervously awaiting my next basset hound. At 10 years old, he was a listed as a senior, so I felt he'd be a good fit for me, an old guy who had recently moved into a senior living facility in San Francisco. I had lived with basset hounds (usually two at a time) for at least 25 years, but that was usually when I lived in my own house with a yard, and easy proximity to a dog park. Well, what a surprise! It seems nobody at GGBR had told Blue that he was a senior dog, and on his first trip to the Golden Gate Dog Park, he took off like a rocket, playing with all the other dogs at full speed for at least an hour nonstop. When he wasn't running with the other dogs like he was a puppy, he was running to the gates to greet all the newcomers, both people and dogs. He seems to think a new friend is just a stranger he hasn't met yet. Blue also has the largest paws and loudest (and lowest) bark of any basset I've had. And it's the same at every visit to the dog park. Plus, the story so far has a happy ending. After taking him up and down elevators at the apartment building at least 4 times a day for a few weeks, I decided it was time for both of us to move to our own home. So now we've found a beautiful craftsman house with a yard in the back with mature plants, birds, and even a squirrel for blue to chase. (No more senior living for us!) You can check out Blue on this year's GGBR calendar. He'll be pictured on a month yet to be determined. Phil R._19Oct2024 (Blue, adopted May 6, 2024)
Lars Lars is loving it here, and we love him! He has especially enjoyed wrestling with, chasing, and snuggling with his sister, Poppy.--Paige P, Washougal, WA (Lars adopted Sept2024) Click a letter to find an animal or view all.
