Red (Napa) I have had Mr. Gus [formerly known as Red] for 2 months. I am so happy to report that he is thriving. He fits in so great in my home. Gus was a little shy when he arrived but he immediately decided this was his forever home. He loves his dog brother Parker. Gus has brought out the young guy in my current Bassett. Gus is a constant player and is constantly engaging his brother in "rough housing." The one thing about Gus that amazes me is his speed. He races around the house at 90 miles an hour. I am so thankful to have the opportunity to adopt Gus from GGBR. He is everything I was looking for, and so much more. Thank GGBR for all you do. This is my second time adopting from GGBR.__Leslie M, 23Feb2024 (adopted 31Jan2024)
Ulysses Wally, formerly known as Ulysses, was adopted on 25July2022. See his story and photo, posted under the name of his buddy, Fred (Victorville).
Fred (Victorville) Fred came to us as we were looking for a buddy for Wally who is also a GGBR dog [formerly known as Ulysses.] Wally, who loves all dogs and Fred are a good match. Fred was a bit timid in the beginning and wanted to be around people ALL the time. He still loves to follow us around the house but seems a bit more comfortable when Wally is nearby. Fred and Wally are both super sweet dogs. He and Wally play hard every morning, zooming around the back yard and stopping for the occasional squirrel sighting. They sleep a good part of the day whether it be inside on the couch or basking in the sun outside and then round two begins in the evening, always being instigated by Wally! Fred is super speedy, definitely the fastest and most athletic of all our 7 previous bassets. Wally tries to keep up with Fred and sometimes cuts him off at the pass or hides behind a bush. They are relentless when it comes to playing and we sometimes stop them because they don't know when to stop!! Fred loves his toys and often races back and forth down the hallway tossing his stuffed toy in the air. Wally and Fred like to play tug a war and they are both SOOO strong. When they settle down at night, they are snuggled on either side of me on the couch, Fred usually on my lap. I call him my weighted blanket! They both bring us so much joy and comedy in our lives.---Louise T., 14Feb2024. (Fred, adopted 28April2023.)
Molly (Roseville) When we were first contacted about Dolly (formerly known as Molly), I also got a message from a friend about another Basset Hound at the Stanislaus animal shelter. Since we were already scheduled to pick Dolly up, I declined, but told my friend that we would consider fostering him in the meantime. When we did not hear back from the shelter, we thought the worst had happened [to Rocky]. Sad as it was, we kept our spirits up, because we were going to pick up Dolly that weekend. When we got to Claire's Basset BnB, we had so much fun meeting all the pups! Dolly instantly took to us, and we were so excited, but I also noticed another sweet Basset that melted in my arms. I asked Claire about him, and she said they just got him a few days ago and his name was Rocky. The name sounded familiar, so I pulled up the picture of the Basset my friend sent me from Stanislaus, and it was the same dog! We were all so exited to know he found a safe place to land. Since it was love at first snuggle, I instantly told Claire that if he needed a good home as well, we would be very interested in adopting him too. Sure enough, after a week or so, Claire reached out and said that she thought Rocky would do best with other Basset family members and asked if we were still interested in adopting him. With an enthusiastic YES, we brought him home within a few days. She said he needed a more suitable name, as the name, Rocky, was given to him by the shelter. I liked the name, Archimedes, or Archie, for short, but my husband liked Maximus/Max better. We had a family vote with our 2 daughters, and just like that, Maximus was a part of our family. Now we have our little Basset pack, as we already had a 4 year old Basset named Winston as well. All three of them act as if they were from the same litter, that is how well bonded they are. Dolly is definitely our wanderer, as she daily makes her rounds throughout our 5 acre property, and Max is typically right behind her. They also love to play-fight over who gets to lie on our laps and we typically just end up in a big, snuggly, puppy pile. Thank you so much, Golden Gate Basset Rescue, for doing what you do! You have made our family whole with these two sweethearts. We are now so obsessed with this breed, that we even named our property Basset Hill Ranch! The Newton Family, 06Feb2024 (Dolly was adopted 22Nov2023; Max was adopted 04Dec2023)
Rocky (Modesto) Rocky, now named Maximus, or Max, for short, was adopted with Molly (Roseville). Please see their story, under the name, Molly (Roseville). The photo shows Rocky (aka Maximus) on the left and Molly (aka Dolly) on the right. Click a letter to find an animal or view all.
